At 24 I was 400 pounds, running a very effective avoidance system, and comfortable being the smartest person in a room I was choosing to stay small in. I had a good work ethic and almost nothing else going for me externally.

At 37 I'm a husband, a father of two, a Staff Product Manager at one of the largest retailers in the world — and in the best shape of my life.

The difference isn't talent. It's that I stopped waiting for the right conditions and started building them.

That instinct — to build the system rather than wait for it — is what I bring to every product, every team, every problem.
